American Heart Month

February is not just a month to celebrate Valentine’s Day, it is also a month to celebrate the health and wellness of our heart. Around 610,000 people die every year in the Unites States from heart disease, which is 1 in every 4 deaths. Fortunately, there are ways to prevent heart disease.

  • Quit smoking
  • Healthy Diet. Eating fruits and vegetables in their natural form, as they come from the ground, is the best. That doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself. A 4oz glass of red wine or dark chocolate containing 70 percent cocoa is just fine for your heart health
  • Exercise regularly. It is recommended to get 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise, which can include water aerobics or brisk walking.
  • Prevent and treat other health conditions. High blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol can result in heart disease. Ensure correct medication is taken to help maintain these conditions.

Luckily, these methods are not extremely difficult. All in all, continuing a healthy lifestyle will help keep many illnesses at bay.

We worry about our loved ones in times where they may need extra help. Whether it’s an elderly parent or a family member recovering from surgery – there are times when assistance for well-being is necessary. However, in those moments, we can’t always be there to cover all their needs. Private duty home care is a wonderful option that can ensure your loved ones have the medical and personal attention they need during the hours they need it most. Here’s how it works and why it’s so special.

What is private duty home care?

Private duty home care is in-home care that you commission for yourself or your loved one during short-term periods of need, or as a long-term care solution for ongoing circumstances that don’t require round-the- clock supervision. Perhaps your loved one needs medical attention following an operation, or assistance with cooking and cleaning because of illness or inability. Private duty home care will allow them to exist at home, keeping both the health and life status quo so they feel good about being there — safe, cared-for and free from hospitalization or more facility-based nursing. Care is determined by the assessment performed by a RN and can range from a nurse aide, Paramedic, LPN or RN.

Why is it a compassionate and empowering alternative?

Home care is a hopeful option because it allows clients to conduct life as independently as possible in the environment they love. It alleviates that feeling of total dependence on other family members or friends for assistance. Care workers are guaranteed to be both qualified and dedicated to making client situations more positive through thoughtful, customized care plans. With caregivers arriving dependably when needed most, your loved one can expect regularity of care, personalized assistance, and pleasant companionship – helping them feel in control of their life but not alone.

What services may private duty home care cover?

Private duty home care covers an array of services. Examples include:

  • Companionship
  • Preparing Meals
  • Medication Management
  • Laundry
  • Help With Dressing
  • Any medical needs (injections, IVs, g-tube feedings, etc.)
  • Light Housework
  • Personal Care Assistance
  • Personal Escort for Errands and Appointments
  • Blood Draws
  • Transitioning from Rehabilitation to the Home
  • RN Services (skilled nursing needs)

Why is it beneficial?

Private duty, in-home care is beneficial because it increases quality of life for your loved one allowing them to live with dignity in their own homes. Caregiving can often be overwhelming. For family members, in-home care gives you peace of mind knowing that loved ones are cared for with patience, compassion and understanding. This gives you the ability to spend more quality time with them while giving them the ability to succeed every day in living the most enjoyable life possible—making being home even more special.
