How We Are Different

With an AccuCare private, in-home caregiver, you receive the same care and compassion we would give our own families. Because we are RN owned and managed, our family-inspired approach to care also comes with expertise that enables us to perform medically skilled services. In addition to assisting with essential, everyday client needs, we can provide for many of your healthcare needs.

AccuCare was founded in 1994 by Jacqueline Phillips, RN, BSN, to serve seniors and their families in the greater metro St. Louis area, including Chesterfield. Like Jacque, each of our employees is dedicated to our ongoing mission of providing every client with the highest possible standard of private, in-home care, including:

  • An experienced RN is on clinical call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to handle client/family issues. This service is provided to our clients at no additional charge.
  • We provide private, in-home care for seniors or for clients recovering from surgery. We will also work with families who hire their own private caregiver.
  • We provide extra attention and care for anyone who resides in an independent or assisted living facility or nursing home. This service is often requested when there are not enough employees in the facility to provide proper care and personalized one-on-one attention.

Because AccuCare is a small, independent organization, our staff is empowered to make decisions on the spot without waiting for approval from “corporate.” We believe our employees should be treated with respect and rewarded for a job well done and with care. As a result, many of them have been with us for over eight years — an achievement almost unheard of in the private, in-home care industry.

At AccuCare, our dependability is a source of shared pride. You can rest assured that your family will never be asked to pick up one of our employees from a bus stop or to “fill in” until an employee arrives. We guarantee our 24-hour care. AccuCare was founded in 1994 by Jacqueline Phillips, RN, BSN. Since that time, we have been operating as a successful, independent, private, in-home care company.

Our mission has always been to provide quality, in-home care with a human touch. Through Jacque’s vision, our company has grown to more than 200 caregivers providing in-home care services to hundreds of clients in the metro St. Louis area. This year marks Jane Olsen’s (our Director of Nursing/Operations) 20th year with the agency. Our leadership team maintains a deep level of commitment to our clients and company associates alike creating a culture of trust, integrity and professionalism.

Overview (Standards of Care)

At AccuCare, we strive to make a difference in every life that we touch, every day. Our caregivers are available on an hourly, 24-hour or per-visit basis to help with a variety of in-home care services. Because everyone’s needs are different, we evaluate each situation on an individual basis to develop a care plan that meets each client’s specific needs and offers benefits including:

  • A registered nurse on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • Assessment for possible qualification for Medicare services
  • Coordination with privately hired staff, if needed
  • Collaboration with Medicare or hospice services, as needed
  • Flexible hours

Basic services we can offer include: personal care, medication reminders, laundry cleaning, meal preparation, help with dressing, light housework and help with family pets. In addition we can provide:

  • Transportation (such as grocery shopping trips, doctor visits and other personal appointments)
  • Free flu shot each year
  • In-home blood draws (includes drawing blood, delivery to lab and transferring results to the doctor)
  • Medication setups and reorders from the pharmacy

Our Nursing Supervisor makes weekly visits (at no charge) to each of our 24-hour care clients, and all other clients as needed. This is done to assess the ongoing general health of each client and to assure that they are receiving quality care. Reports are called in to the client’s physician and/or family members, as needed.

In addition to private, in-home care, we provide on-site first aid services to large venues in the St. Louis area, which include the Edward Jones Dome, Busch Stadium, Scottrade Center, The Pageant, Peabody Opera House, St. Charles Family Arena and America’s Center.

Custom Care Plan

Custom Care Plan

Creating our custom care plan begins with a free personal assessment and safety visit, performed by our Director of Nursing. An assessment visit allows us to evaluate the safety of the home environment, meet with family members and review billing rates and the best choices for care to meet individual needs. All clients are also assessed for possible qualification to receive other resources in the community.

A custom care plan is written for each client. The care plan is given to our scheduling coordinator, who assigns caregivers to that client. Each caregiver assigned to the client also receives a copy of the care plan.

Our shift schedules can be adapted to fit your needs. We can provide as little as one hour per day and up to 24 hours per day. Care costs vary depending on your needs and location, and usually range between $20 and $23 per hour for a nurse aide. We do charge time and a half for holidays. We also provide RN services starting at $48 per hour.

If you choose, you can also start care without a full personal assessment, which allows you to engage caregivers in emergency situations. We can provide the care you need immediately.  The Director of Nursing will follow-up shortly thereafter with an assessment and cost-free visit. Our nurse also helps us evaluate for Medicare, Meals on Wheels or durable medical equipment eligibility. Our private, in-home care services can typically be provided within one hour of a call to our office.

We can provide the care you need immediately. The Director of Nursing will follow-up shortly thereafter with a cost-free assessment. For the assurance of safety at all hours, you can arrange for a private, in-home caregiver to be in your home 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Because each caregiver stays until relieved by the caregiver covering the next shift, you can be sure that you will never be left alone.

At AccuCare, we GUARANTEE our 24-hour care. Our private, in-home caregivers who cover night shift duty do NOT sleep. So you can rest more comfortably, knowing that someone is awake in your home and looking out for you. If an employee cancels, we send a supervisor to cover the shift until the next employee arrives.

Every caregiver employed by AccuCare is thoroughly screened through the Family Care Safety Registry. This comprehensive background check includes review of the following:

  • State criminal history records maintained by the Missouri State Highway Patrol
  • Sex Offender Registry maintained by the Missouri State Highway Patrol
  • Child abuse/neglect records maintained by the Missouri Department of Social Services
  • Employee disqualification list maintained by the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services
  • Employee disqualification registry maintained by the Missouri Department of Mental Health
  • Childcare facility licensing records maintained by the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services
  • Foster parent licensing records maintained by the Missouri Department of Social Services

Our caregivers are required to have their own vehicle, a valid driver’s license and insurance and are required to drive to work. They are not allowed to take the bus or get a ride to work. AccuCare also carries additional insurance so that our caregivers are able to drive clients for occasions such as doctor and hairdresser appointments, grocery store visits and social events at no additional charge.

Each of our caregivers is required to have at least one year of work experience and must complete an orientation prior to being placed with clients. We have many trusted employees who have several years of successful client relationships.

Additionally, all caregivers are required to have CPR certification renewed every two years. Employees also receive yearly TB testing.

Our Director of Nursing and Nursing Supervisor work very closely with our scheduling coordinator to provide the “right” caregiver for each client. We maintain consistent and open communication with our clients, their families and our caregivers to make sure that we are providing the best care possible.

AccuCare in-home caregivers provide a broad range of services including personal care, light housework, meal preparation, bill paying and transportation services.

We can provide whatever our clients or their families need in order for them to remain living where they most want to be, in their homes, as long as possible.

  • AccuCare services empower clients to continue to live independently.

Choosing A Private, In-Home Care Provider

If you or your family are in need of in-home care services, here are a few important questions you should ask about an agency and its caregivers:

  1. Do the caregivers work as employees of a licensed “home healthcare agency,” or is it merely a “registry” for independent contractors?
  2. Is the staff bonded and insured by the agency?
  3. Are caregivers paid through the agency or directly by the client after each visit?
  4. Who is responsible if caregivers are injured in your home — the agency or the client/family?
  5. Is there a registered nurse on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week for medical emergencies?
  6. Does the agency conduct background and reference checks, drug testing, health testing and skill competency levels for each caregiver?

Supplementing Existing Private Care or Medicare/Hospice

Medicare will pay for home health visits when authorized by a physician. The client must be homebound and show a need for skilled services. Services are generally approved in eight-week increments. The types of skilled services that are included are listed below.

Skilled Nursing: Your physician can authorize visits from one to seven times a week. Medicare will provide a registered nurse who will teach, provide an assessment and a care plan (for your caregivers) and keep in contact with your physician regarding your care.Social Services: Medicare will provide a social worker that can provide counseling for community resource planning and help with the emotional and physical transition families can experience as a result of illness. Physical, Occupational and/or Speech Therapy: Your physician may authorize one or all of these services based on your diagnosis and need. Services usually range from three times a week to daily visits.Nurse Aide: The registered nurse assigned to a Medicare case will provide the outline for the “hands on” care provided by the nurse aide. Services must include personal care, but the aide can also assist with a light meal, linen changes and a few household chores. The nurse aide visit should last 45 minutes to an hour and can be authorized daily if required.

Medicare home care is typically short-term care for transitioning patients from hospital to home. Hospice provides care for those diagnosed with a terminal illness. Private, in-home care is a longer-term commitment for those needing more consistent, daily care.

Some examples of what Medicare does not pay for:

  • 24-hour-a-day care at home
  • Meals delivered to your home
  • Homemaker services like shopping, cleaning and laundry when this is the only care you need and when these services aren’t related to your approved plan of care
  • Personal care given by nurse aides, such as bathing, dressing and using the bathroom when this is the only care you need

AccuCare can help fill the care gaps that are sometimes left with Medicare or hospice, by working hand-in-hand with those agencies to provide a total care solution.

Some long-term care policies may cover private, in-home care costs. AccuCare can help determine if your insurer covers the services you need. We can help you file claims or provide any necessary documentation required by your insurance company.
